Writing for this portfolio has been an interesting process. Some days I was inspired by TV shows, movies, conversations, and events to write pages and pages of content and other days it felt like I was at a wall pulling teeth to get a few thoughts onto the page. It took some humbling, vulnerability, and awareness to put all of the poems together. I was given mixed feed-back during writing workshops. They all contributed to the final product. This writing project was probably the most difficult for me. I would get attached to ideas and concepts in the poems and after several revisions, realize that it wasn't exactly what I was going for.
These poems take the shape of activism and awareness of the culture around us and highlights the things within us.
I created it with the intention of encouraging those who read it while getting you to think deeper and open your eyes to what you may have overlooked. I tried implementing descriptives that hit the first time you read it, but even if you read it a second time you would grasp something different from the writing.

I came up with the idea of specified letters of poetry while brainstorming in class and followed it through to see what I would get. There were some letters that were great from the start, others I was unsatisfied with, and others I completely had to scrap or rewrite. This portfolio stretched me the most. Each revision I came up with something different and had to learn to stick with a thought and follow it out until completion. I was nervous talking about touchy topics in the beginning and that in and of itself was the biggest hurdle. After that it was getting the thoughts from my head to the page in a way that was concise but in the form of a complete thought.
Sit back, read, and tell me what you think.
